When it comes to the most powerful steroids, Halotestin (Fluoxymesterone) is near the top. Halotestin is a very potent steroid but one that has quite specific uses and for these reasons it has not seen the same popularity among bodybuilders as most other steroids.
Halotestin excels at boosting strength significantly and for that reason it can be valued by competitive strength athletes. While many steroids offer some level of strength enhancement, Halotestin’s ability is at the extreme level but as we will see, this one great benefit does come with some significant downsides which greatly reduces the desirability for most bodybuilders in choosing to use this steroid.
My Halotestin cycle guide has been broken down into the following sections:
Table of Contents
What is Halotestin (Fluoxymesterone)?
Halotestin is a testosterone derived oral anabolic steroid with very powerful anabolic strength, but despite this it is surprisingly not hugely popular among bodybuilders compared with other steroids and this can be do to do with the fact that despite its potency, it is not as effective at mass building as many other compounds.
Halotestin certainly still has many excellent benefits which will suit some bodybuilders and athletes, depending on personal goals. This is a steroid that does not aromatize, making it appealing for cutting purpose as you will not be dealing with estrogenic related side effects like bloating and gyno.
As with all steroids, Halotestin comes with its share of negatives and the most notable are its toxicity risk to the liver and its very powerful androgenic properties. This makes Halotestin one of the more challenging steroids to use when it comes to side effects.
Editor’s Note: For real, NO-BS information on cycling steroids be sure to check out Straight From the Underground (my recommended underground steroid handbook). Everything in this book is based on first hand experience, not theory.

Halotestin Benefits (Halotestin Effects)
Halotestin comes with an anabolic rating that is about 19 times more powerful than testosterone. This can be misleading to uninformed or novice steroid users who might automatically think that this substantial anabolic profile will lead to amazing gains in mass. This however is not the case at all because despite this massive anabolic rating, Halotestin doesn’t transfer its anabolism very well at all to the body.
A very small amount, if any, of this anabolic property has any effect when taking Halotestin. Instead it’s the androgenic properties of this steroid that are most notable and here it is has a rating of 8.5 times more powerful than testosterone in androgenic strength and it’s for this reason that androgenic side effects are so strong with Halotestin.
With these factors in mind we can look at the possible benefits and effects that someone will experience with Halotestin:
Strength and Energy
Greatly enhanced strength is the most important and desired effect of Halotestin and often the sole reason that a bodybuilder will choose to use it. The massive boost in strength and energy mainly comes from the effect of Halotestin on red blood cell function. This increased strength will help any athlete push performance to new levels, but with it comes increased aggression overall and this often makes it useful for powerlifters, fighters and others where aggressive strength might be a desirable trait.
Although not a specific fat loss steroid or one with very powerful effects in this area, it can still contribute to the loss of fat but these effects will only really be seen if you are very lean already. Those who haven’t already lost a significant amount of body fat through previous cutting phases are unlikely to notice the fat loss effects of Halotestin.
Aggression and Drive
While this is often thought of as a negative side effect, increased aggression is also valued as a benefit by specific Halotestin users – most notably those who require the extra drive and energy for certain pursuits like fighting and powerlifting. As long as this increased aggression is put to positive use it is not seen as a problem by Halotestin users.
However those who are especially prone to existing mood or anger issues should take heed that this trait may worsen those existing tendencies in other aspects of life outside the competitive arena where it’s valued. Starting Halotestin at a low dose for first time users will allow you monitor its effects on your aggression levels and how well you cope with it. Doses can then be altered from there as needed.
One of the few uses of Halotestin is during the pre-contest phase where the diet is extremely restricted and strict and where many people will struggle or fall before the final hurdle. Halotestin can provide the extra kick and energy needed to push through the toughest times just before a contest.
Competitors will also benefit from enhanced physical conditioning prior to a competition with definition and hardness receiving a boost. This is only of great benefits to those who are already very lean with some of the lowest body fat levels if you are to see the true power of Halotestin in this area. For the average bodybuilder this will not be possible but those who take physical conditioning to the highest level will value what Halotestin can contribute to this phase of contest preparation.
Many steroids give you a great deal of versatility in dosages, allowing the more experienced users to increase the dose to levels that provide some very powerful benefits.
When it comes to Halotestin we are limited by the potency of this steroid and doses really should not exceed a certain level. Doing so brings with it dangerous health risks, particularly in regard to the liver and cholesterol. This limits your possible dose to a much smaller range compared with other steroids.
Additionally, there is little room to move when it comes to how long it’s safe to use Halotestin regardless of your chosen dosage. Below are some of the common examples of Halotestin dosages and use.
Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Halotestin Dosage
Halotestin is unlikely to be a steroid that beginners or even intermediately experienced steroid users will want to consider using both because of its limited and narrow benefits and its harsh side effects. But for those beginners who do choose to take the plunge into a Halotestin cycle, the safest dosage to stick to is between 10mg and 20mg daily. Even at the low dose of 10mg you can expect very noticeable results and the time frame of use for a beginner should not exceed the two week mark so impacts on the liver can be minimized as much as possible.
Intermediate users will still see excellent results from as low as 10mg or 20mg daily, but some may choose to venture up to 30mg per day for increased strength and boosts to drive to enhance performance. Liver and cholesterol health should be monitored closely when advancing to the dose of 30mg as increased risk of toxicity is virtually guaranteed.
Advanced users might be tempted to ramp up Halotestin to high doses in an attempt to enhance the effects further, but this is not the right or safe way to use this steroid. 40mg daily is considered the highest safe dose of Halotestin. Anything about this level is going to put you at extreme risk of liver damage.
Advanced steroid users will see serious effects with just 20mg daily of Halotestin but once you’ve used to steroid and desire more hardcore effects by venturing up with the dose, there is just a little room to move and 40mg is considered the ceiling with Halotestin. No matter how advanced or experienced you are, exceeding 40mg of Halotestin each day is too taxing the liver for anyone to handle.
Proper Halotestin Administration and Timing
Thanks to the relatively long half life, for an oral steroid, of about 9.5 hours Halotestin can be taken either as a single dose each day or to have the daily dosage split into two. The goal is to maintain consistent levels of the steroid in the blood so you receive its maximum effects. Your dosage and timing of your workouts can determine whether you choose to take a single daily dose, or if you will find greater benefit in splitting it.
Regardless of the dosage you decide on, Halotestin’s potent effects on the liver and cholesterol dictate that this is a steroid that can only be used for a very limited period of time if we are to avoid very serious health issues. Many people will find that even a 2 week administration of Halotestin is ample enough to experience excellent results, such is the fast working nature of this steroid. Others will want to stick to a 4 week period. The very maximum length of use of Halotestin is 6 weeks and this is not recommended to be exceeded.
Female Halotestin Dosage
The extremely strong androgenic activity of Halotestin makes this a difficult steroid for females to use. Even at very low doses virilization is an almost certainty for women and for that reason Halotestin is not a steroid that is recommended for use by females at all for performance enhancement. Because of the lack of use by female athletes there is no information available about dosing for this purpose.
Typical Halotestin Cycles
Being a very powerful steroid particularly in the androgenic department, Halotestin does not come with the versatility that a lot of anabolic steroids do. This makes it quite limited in how it can be used in a cycle to maximum benefit while keeping the side effects as minimal as possible.
Because Halotestin doesn’t have high anabolic effects, it’s not used as the primary anabolic compound and it should not be used on its own or even alongside low dose testosterone. Finally, the liver toxic effects of Halotestin dictate that it can only be included for a short period in a steroid cycle so once again we see another limiting factor when it comes to Halotestin use. Below are some example cycles for different user levels which include Halotestin:
Beginner Halotestin Cycle
Beginners to Halotestin will want to limit its use to include testosterone as the only other steroid in the cycle at a dose that will both provide lean gains and a source testosterone that will be essential while Halotestin is suppressing normal function. Testosterone Enanthate taken at between 300mg and 500mg per week will result in some nice mass gains, with Halotestin providing the strength and drive needed to push through your workouts.
While the Testosterone can be taken for the entire 12 weeks of the cycle, Halotestin should only be utilized for the first 4 weeks to provide the initial boost. This particular cycle can be considered as a bulking cycle and while not common, users will find Halotestin provides a different experience than some of the more standard steroids that a beginner might select to use.
Intermediate Halotestin Cycle
This 12 week cycle adds famous steroid Deca-Durabolin to the stack, which is a compound that also does not aromatize so the user will be able to experience gains and physique enhancement without the concern of water retention. Testosterone in this cycle is used purely as a supportive compound at a low enough level to be useful but not a high enough dose to result in rising estrogen. The intermediate user can expect quality mass gains in this cycle where Testosterone is used at 100mg weekly, Deca at 400mg per week for the entire 12 weeks, and Halotestin used only for the first 4 to 6 weeks maximum at 30mg daily.
Advanced Halotestin Cycle
Only the most advanced users will consider this cycle which makes use of Halotestin for less than half the cycle length, placed in the final weeks of the cycle with the main goal being to achieve maximum hardness of the physique, but with the addition of Trenbolone Acetate some mass gains and fat loss can also be targeted.
Tren is considered a steroid only suitable for very experienced users and this cycle is particularly targeted at those competing in contests where the cycle prepares you in the lead up to the contest. This entails achieving maximum definition and hardness with zero water retention and minimal body fat.
Testosterone Propionate, or any testosterone ester, once again acts as a testosterone support at 100mg weekly for the entire 10 weeks, alongside Trenbolone at 400mg per week. Halotestin should be added only in the final 4 weeks of the cycle at the maximum safe dose of 40mg daily.
Halotestin is a steroid that at the very least needs to be stacked with a form of testosterone because its suppression effects are severe. This is the most basic stack including Halotestin. People using Halotestin for pre-contest hardening purposes will find that stacking this steroid with another very powerful androgen in Trenbolone will result in an extremely defined physique, however the side effects can be expected to be just as extreme so such a stack is only a consideration for the most experienced and advanced users.
What Results Can I Expect Using Halotestin?
As a bodybuilder, Halotestin is unlikely to be a steroid that is a high priority for inclusion in your cycle. In fact many regular bodybuilders choose not to use it at all while only those with very specific goals like powerlifters can feel that the benefits outweigh the harsh negatives of this steroid.
The greatest benefits however are likely to be seen by those who are physique competitors who need superb hardening and definition as well as the sheer drive and aggression needed to get you through the final stages of a very restrictive and extreme contest preparation diet and workout regime.
Halotestin provides a niche and specific benefit in boosting aggression and strength, while also contributing directly to physical conditioning without the concerns of aromatization and associated fluid retention. This makes it a common strategy for competitors to include Halotestin at the very end stage of a pre-contest cycle where it can have maximum effect at the precise time it’s needed.
Halotestin has a detection time of about 2 months and since this is a steroid that is going to appeal to competitive bodybuilders, this long detection time is paramount to keep in mind where potential drug testing might be occurring.
Side Effects from Halotestin Cycle
When it comes to potential side effects with this steroid there are two main areas of concern. One is that Halotestin is a very potent androgen, in fact possibly the most powerful androgenic steroid. Secondly is the severe toxicity impact on the liver for which Halotestin is once again one of the most potent in this regard. Here are the main side effects to consider when using Halotestin:
Androgenic Side Effects
With such a substantial androgenic rating it comes as no surprise that the androgenic related side effects are also going to be extreme with Halotestin. Acne, head hair loss and growth of body hair are all standard androgenic effects. Those with a genetic predisposition to acne and hair loss are almost certain to experience such effects, but even men with only a mild predisposition can see themselves having to deal with these particular side effects with Halotestin, and this is not often the case with other anabolic steroids.
The androgenic effects are also at the very extreme end for women and will most certainly result in issues like body hair growth and a deepened voice. These side effects make it inadvisable for any women to use this steroid as they are virtually guaranteed to still develop even at low doses.
Estrogenic Side Effects
A welcome benefit of Halotestin is that it has no aromatizing activity and as a result, no estrogenic side effects that are so common with many other steroids such as male breast enlargement (gyno) and water retention as well as raised blood pressure. The lack of aromatization is perhaps the greatest benefit of Halotestin but as we can see when reviewing other side effects, this is the only area where the steroid does not cause any negative issues.
Anabolic steroids in general have a stereotype of being a cause of increased aggression in male users. While this is not necessarily the case for all steroids, it is a major issue with Halotestin. The exceptionally high androgenic effects of Halotestin result not only in greater physical strength but a rise in overall aggression as well. What a user does with this increased aggression is highly individual: those with a naturally calm nature will channel aggression into enhanced physical strength in the gym or in the ring, while those who have a personality of a “short fuse” or anger when not using steroids is likely to be very negatively impacted by the effects of Halotestin in this area and should seriously consider whether this is a steroid that is worth using for that reason alone.
Anyone with existing liver problems should not used Halotestin at all and even those with a health liver need to limit use to less than one month. This is because as a C17-aa oral steroid Halotestin is liver toxic but even compared with other oral steroids of this type, Halotestin toxicity is at the more severe level.
The liver is highly likely to become very stressed while using Halotestin and this can’t be avoided. To minimize risk of permanent damage steps must be taken, including not using any other oral steroids at the same time or for at least two months after stopping a Halotestin cycle, limiting use to no more than 4 weeks but even less is preferable, and avoiding alcohol and medications which also cause liver stress. Halotestin is possibly the most hepatotoxic steroid available and this issue must not be overlooked by anyone considering use of this compound.
Cholesterol and High Blood Pressure
Halotestin is likely to cause your good HDL cholesterol levels to reduce while raising the levels of LDL bad cholesterol. This brings about increased risk of arteriosclerosis and potential heart attack with thickening of the walls of the arteries. Many steroids come with such risks at some level, but Halotestin is one of the most severe because of its impact on the liver, which helps regulate cholesterol.
In addition to its negative impact on cholesterol, Halotestin can also bring about high blood pressure. Both the cholesterol and blood pressure effects are important reasons why long term use of Halotestin is never advised and cycles should be kept to no more than a few weeks in length. Anyone who has existing known problems with either blood pressure or cholesterol should avoid the use of Halotestin completely. Even those with healthy levels in these two areas will need to monitor them carefully for changes throughout the cycle.
Halotestin comes with a very high level of testosterone suppression, once again putting this steroid at the top of the most potent ones out there. Halotestin will greatly reduce the normal production of testosterone or even shut it down completely while the steroid is active in the body.
Users of Halotestin will need to add a testosterone steroid to the cycle to maintain functioning hormone levels and without this measure you will face a whole host of physical and psychological issues.
Post cycle therapy will then be required after your cycle to restore normal testosterone function as quickly as possible and to avoid a sudden drop in testosterone following the end of the steroid cycle. Nolvadex and HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) are recommended to be used during PCT for up to 6 weeks.
Halotestin Post Cycle Therapy
To stimulate your natural testosterone production again after having it suppressed during your Halotestin cycle, implementing post cycle therapy is critical. Halotestin has very strong suppression activity even compared with other powerful steroids, so preventing Hypothalamic Pituitary Testicular Axis (HPTA) by limiting the length of time the steroid is used, and the dose, is of vital importance because such damage can make it difficult or impossible to restore normal testosterone function.
The timing of your PCT for Halotestin will also depend on which other compounds you’ve used in your cycle. A standard protocol is to take Nolvadex along with HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) for 6 weeks. Halotestin has very harsh suppressive properties and the fact that it’s often utilized for the final phase of a cycle make it wise to extend PCT to 6 weeks rather than stopping at the 4 week mark which is possible with other steroids.
This provides ample time for the stimulation of testosterone function and helps you avoid falling into a state of low testosterone where not only will any gains made start to reduce, but excess fat can be gained, energy drained and a range of health issues develop. By the end of the PCT cycle your body should once again be producing its own testosterone to an adequate level.
Is Halotestin dangerous?
Every anabolic steroid has the potential to be dangerous when misused, but the risk rating of Halotestin is considerably higher than many other steroids. One of the biggest risks with this steroid relates to its toxicity on the liver. Another area that makes Halotestin potentially dangerous relates to its impact on cholesterol, especially when the steroid is used long term. These potent effects mean that Halotestin should not be used for any longer than six weeks at the absolute maximum, but most people will not want to exceed 4 weeks of use. Even just 2 weeks of Halotestin use will provide substantial results while limiting negative effects as much as possible.
Does Halotestin aromatize?
There is no aromatizing activity with Halotestin so estrogen related side effect are not an issue with this steroid. This makes Halotestin a steroid that can provide some excellent physique hardening effects, without the fluid retention seen with many other steroids that do aromatize. Halotestin can therefore be used for cutting or for pre-contest cycles where obtaining maximum tone and hardness is a top priority. The lack of aromatization of Halotestin also means we don’t see that other dreaded estrogenic related effect in gynecomastia.
How long does Halotestin stay in your system?
Halotestin can be detected in your system for about 2 months after discontinuing use. Since this is a steroid that is most favored by competitors and contest participants, this is a serous factor to keep in mind if you expect you might be drug tested at any point within the two month period of ending your cycle.
Is Halotestin legal?
Halotestin is an anabolic steroid and like all steroids in that category, it is illegal to purchase in the US and most countries or use without a prescription. It is also a banned substance by world doping associations where it is listed as a performance enhancing substance. Halotestin is not one of the easiest steroids to buy because it is not in high demand, and you will need to do so on the black market which is of course illegal. This brings with it the possibility of low quality products so it’s essential to search out a reliable supplier.
How long should you use Halotestin for?
This is possibly the most potent steroid in existence and the greatest risk comes from the effects of Halotestin on the liver. The high level of toxicity that Halotestin will place on the liver restricts the safe period of use to a very short time compared with other steroids. Most people will not want to use Halotestin for longer than 4 weeks, with 6 weeks being the absolute maximum without a real risk to liver damage.
How long is Halotestin half life?
This oral steroid has a long half life compared with most other steroid, at over 9 hours. This makes it possible to take Halotestin either once daily, or twice daily by splitting the dose with the goal of maintaining stable blood levels of Halotestin for best results.
My Conclusion and Recommendation
The main use for Halotestin is to experience a substantial increase in strength. This steroid doesn’t have a wide variety of useful effects and has very limited usage or benefit for most people including both bodybuilders and athletes. Its main value is for men competing in extreme athletic endeavors like powerlifting, fighting and other strength based competitions. For the general bodybuilder Halotestin is not particularly useful when compared to some of the better anabolic steroids out there.
